The future playing success of Walsall Football Club depends on our ability to produce fine young players. By identifying the best young players in the area and offering them specialised soccer coaching we hope to provide a continual stream of top quality players into the first team. Walsall has a fine reputation for doing this going back to the days of Alan Clarke, Mark Wallington, Phil Parkes and David Kelly who all emerged from the clubs youth ranks and went on to achieve international honours. Other products of the youth policy have become First Team regulars, such as Chris Marsh, Ian Roper and Dean Keates.

The Walsall F.C. Scholarship Programme not only produces players of impressive ability but also develops their academic and social skills. As well as soccer training and match play, a strong emphasis is placed on academic development to give youngsters the skills they will need to succeed in a work environment outside football. In addition our Centre of Excellence aims to provide the best possible coaching and educational guidance for talented youngsters from the age of eight to sixteen at the Bescot Stadium Synthetic Sports Pitch.
